The Coalition

A complete political strategy game built in Godot 4.3 in 72 hours with a team of three. Scoping and shipping under a hard deadline, in the engine I use for my own work.

The Coalition key art

Situation

Brackeys Game Jam 2025.1: 72 hours, a theme, a team of three and no room for a system that does not make it into the build.

This is not a rescue. It is here because it is the clearest public example of the two things Prototype Sprint and the Godot work depend on: scoping something that can actually be finished, and shipping it in Godot.

What I did

Scope to the deadline. A political strategy game with one loop that could be complete in three days: you lead a country and have to survive four years in office by signing laws, debating in Congress and keeping the nation happy. Everything that did not serve that loop was cut before it was started.

Build it in Godot 4.3. Game systems and UI in GDScript, with a web export so the game runs in the browser on itch.io.

Ship on time. Submitted within the 72 hours, playable from the jam page and still playable today.

Result

  • A complete, playable game in 72 hours.
  • Still playable in the browser on the Games page.

Beyond this jam, my Godot work is public: Kickback, an open-source Euphoria-style physics plugin; an RTS with 13,000+ lines of GDScript built with a parallel development workflow; and Estragon-9B, a GDScript coding model verified against the engine itself. The posts below go into each.

Stack

Godot 4.3, GDScript, HTML5 export, itch.io.
